This vegan Russian dressing is creamy, tangy and just a bit spicy! Delicious and perfect for everything from salads to sandwiches to dipping.

Ah, Russian dressing. I love this stuff. I first discovered it, not on a salad, as you might think, but in my quest to create the perfect vegan Reuben sandwich. I was immediately in love!
I'd had its close relative Thousand Island before that, but never Russian. (You can read all about the differences between the two in the post for my vegan Thousand Island recipe.)
But the vegan Russian dressing featured in my Reuben sandwich recipe wasn't even really legit. It was a simplified veganized version of classic Russian dressing, intended to be whipped up on the fly with minimal ingredients.
Today I'm sharing the real deal! This dressing has all the deliciousness of traditional Russian dressing, but without eggs or dairy. And it's still pretty darn easy to make.

Ingredients You'll Need
- Vegan mayonnaise. You can find this in most supermarkets, usually near the regular mayonnaise or in the natural foods section.
- Ketchup. We're using organic ketchup to ensure that the recipe stays vegan. Conventional ketchup may be made with conventional sugar, which is often bleached using animal bone char.
- Dill pickle relish. You can finely dice up some dill pickles to make this yourself if you'd like.
- Red wine vinegar. Have another type of vinegar on hand? You can probably use it! White wine vinegar, white vinegar, and apple cider vinegar are all fine to use.
- Vegan Worcestershire sauce. Most brands of Worcestershire sauce contain anchovy paste, so be careful when buying. Whole Food's brand, Annie's and The Wizard's are all vegan. It's also really easy to make your own vegan Worcestershire!
- Prepared horseradish. This is usually sold in the seafood aisle of most stores, but rest assured it is vegan.
- Hot sauce. Use what you like here. I'm a fan of Tobasco in my vegan Russian dressing.
- Garlic powder.
- Onion powder.
- Paprika.
- Salt.
How It's Made
This dressing takes about five minutes to make! Gather your ingredients, along with a bowl and spoon.
Step 1: Place all of the ingredients into a bowl.
Step 2: Stir everything up until the mixture is creamy and well combined.
Step 3: Taste-test and adjust as needed. You can add more hot sauce, horseradish, vinegar, relish...make the dressing yours!
Your vegan Russian dressing is ready! Drizzle it over salads, use it for dipping veggies, or slather it on a sandwich or veggie burger.
Shelf-Life & Storage
Vegan Russian salad dressing will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for a week or more.
