    Vegan Honey Mustard

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This vegan honey mustard whips up in minutes, using only six ingredients. It tastes just like the classic honey mustard you grew up eating and is perfect for everything from salads to sandwiches and dipping veggies!

There are a few sauces out there that I love enough to eat with a spoon. Like, I'd have sauce for dinner. I love them that much!

Peanut sauce, for example. I'd like the bowl clean. And then there's pesto, which I want to put on everything. Oh, and let's not forget vegan tzatziki. Heaven!

Honey mustard was one of those sauces for me when I was growing up. So sweet, so tangy, it was absolute heaven. I hadn't thought about it in a while, but it recently occurred to me that I could easily create a vegan honey mustard that I might love as much as the original.

All it took was a few simple swaps! With six ingredients and five minutes you too can have a scrumptious batch vegan honey mustard that I promise you'll fall in love with. Let me tell you, this stuff is better than classic honey mustard.

    Ingredients You'll Need

    • Dijon mustard. Preferably use a smooth variety of Dijon mustard, so that you get a nice smooth sauce like the one shown in the photos. You can experiment with different types of mustard if you'd like. Keep it simple with plain yellow mustard, or heat things up with spicy brown mustard or horseradish mustard!
    • Vegan mayonnaise. Most grocery stores sell vegan mayonnaise in the natural foods section, on the shelf or in the refrigerator. You might also find it right near the regular mayo in the condiments aisle. Hellman's vegan and Vegenaise are a couple of popular brands you'll probably see.
    • Maple syrup. This is what we're using in place of honey, because it's got an amazing flavor and just the right amount of sweetness. Feel free to experiment with other honey alternatives like agave nectar, coconut nectar, or vegan honey (it's a thing!) if you'd like.
    • White vinegar. We're using this to add some zip to our vegan honey mustard sauce. This ingredient isn't crucial though. If you have another variety of vinegar on hand like red or white wine, or apple cider vinegar, feel free to use it.
    • Paprika.
    • Salt.

    How It's Made

Below is a detailed photo tutorial on how to make this dish. Scroll all the way down if you'd like to skip right to the recipe!

This is about the easiest dressing you'll ever make. Grab a small bowl and a spoon.

Ingredients for Vegan Honey Mustard in a glass bowl.

Step 1: Place all of your ingredients into the bowl.

Hand stirring Vegan Honey Mustard in a bowl.

Step 2: Stir everything up! Get the mixture nice and smooth. You can use a whisk if any of your ingredients want to clump.

Step 3: Give it a taste-test. Does anything need adjusting? Add more maple syrup if you'd like it sweeter, more Dijon for extra bite, or more mayo to make it creamier. Stir it again.

    Serving Ideas

    • Drizzle it over a salad, like this strawberry spinach salad (in lieu of poppy seed dressing).
    • Spread it on a vegan sandwich.
    • Dip veggies in it. It's great as the centerpiece for a dipping platter!
    • Dip other things in it, like tofu chicken nuggets or polenta fries.

    Shelf-Life & Storage

Vegan honey mustard dressing will keep in an airtight container in the fridge for at least 2 weeks.
