When I first started this blog, I thought I'd remain anonymous. No pictures. No names. Just delicious recipes. Looks like that plan didn't work out too well!
So now you know something about me. I'm pretty shy. You'd probably never guess this from the blog, right? My mom commented on this recently, saying that to a blog reader who'd never met me I'd probably seem like the type to talk your ear off. Not so.
You're here, so you probably want to know a few more things about me.
About Alissa
Hi! I'm Alissa. I started Connoisseurus Veg in February of 2013. Thanks so much for stopping by!
I started this blog as a way to share some of my favorite vegan recipes and inspire myself and others to create new ones. Cooking is a passion of mine.
I've loved cooking as long as I can remember. I have a few other passions as well. I love arts and crafts, and I'm usually taking lessons in some form or another. I can get down with some drawing, painting, needlework — basically anything that involves making pretty stuff! I'm also an avid yogi and I love to read.
Back when I published my first blog post I thought this site would be nothing more than a hobby. At the time I was working as an intellectual property attorney. But once I started blogging I was hooked, and the blog grew and grew. I'd like to say it happened like magic, but in reality it was a ton of work (definitely a labor of love though). Eventually I was able to turn the blog into a full time business. I retired from the law, and here I am, blogging for a living and loving it.
My Recipes
My recipes are 100% vegan and I develop them with taste in mind! Some are healthy, some are pretty indulgent. Some are gluten-free, and a few qualify as plant-based (i.e. no oil or refined ingredients), while most don't.
I try to share a little something for everyone. If a particular recipe doesn't fit within your diet, keep looking or ask about substitutions — I won't always have an answer, but I will do my best!
A few things you'll find as you browse my dishes:
- I love tofu. And tempeh. And seitan.
- I'm big on comfort food and veganizing old favorites.
- You'll find lots of global cuisine, from Thai to Mexican to Italian to Indian and everything in between. Some of these recipes are pretty close to authentic, while others aren't.
- I'm always looking for inspiration. Do you have an old favorite dish that you want veganized? Tell me!
