The Best Vegan BBQ Sauce

Homemade vegan BBQ sauce is super easy to make and way better than store-bought! This recipe whips up in minutes using just a handful of ingredients. Bonus: it's freezer-friendly, so you can have some on hand at all times!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • ½ cup whiskey (can substitute with water)
  • cup organic brown sugar
  • ¼ cup vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons unsulfured molasses
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste

Instructions

  • Stir all ingredients together in a medium saucepan and set it over medium heat.
  • Bring the mixture to a low boil, and lower the heat to a simmer.
  • Allow the mixture to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring or whisking occasionally, until it reaches your desired level of thickness.
  • Remove the pot from heat, taste-test and season with additional salt and pepper to taste. Adjust any other seasonings to your liking.
  • Allow the sauce to cool.
  • Use it immediately, or store in a sealed container in the refrigerator or freezer.

Notes

This recipe makes about 2 cups of sauce.
