Ingredients
  • 1 (14 ounce or 400 gram) package super-firm or extra-firm tofu (if using extra-firm tofu, you'll need to press it), cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon peanut oil (or high-heat oil of choice)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ cup vegan barbecue sauce
  • Fresh chives, for serving
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Place the tofu pieces into a medium bowl and add the soy sauce, oil, cornstarch, smoked paprika, and garlic powder.

  3. Stir gently until the tofu is evenly coated with the other ingredients. Use your hands if needed.

  4. Arrange the tofu pieces on the baking sheet and place it into the oven.

  5. Bake the tofu for about 30 minutes, turning the pieces halfway through, until browned and crispy.

  6. While the tofu bakes, heat up the barbecue sauce on the stove or in the microwave.

  7. After the tofu has finished baking, pour the barbecue sauce over it, then toss to coat.

  8. Sprinkle the tofu with chives and serve.
