- 6 large carrots
- ½ cup water, plus more for boiling the carrots
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- High-heat oil, for grilling
- 6 hot dog rolls
- Toppings of choice

Peel and then trim each carrot to about the length of a hot dog bun. If you'd like, you can peel it to an even thickness and round the edges to make it resemble a hot dog.

Place the carrots into a large pot and cover them with water. Place the pot over high heat.

Bring the water to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer the carrots until just tender (not mushy). This should take between 10 and 15 minutes, depending on the thickness of your carrots.
