Okay, I hope this doesn’t seem too out of place, but I couldn’t not plug my law practice. It is, after all, how I manage to buy all of the food that goes into creating this blog.
So far, having my own practice rocks. I feel like I’m making a difference. I actually get to meet some really cool people, and my clients range from artists, to small business owners, to people who just managed to build something really cool in their garages and want to patent it. I guess the common thread would be creative. As a creative type myself, that works out really well for me.
I’ve worked as an intellectual property attorney since 2007, but just last year I decided to go out on my own and start my own practice. I talked about that just a bit in this post, but my main reason for getting into this is simple: I wanted to run things my way. I want to call the shots, have my own client book, choose the types of work I do, and balance my work with other areas of life, like blogging! I keep my practice small and focus on small clients who have really cool ideas or businesses, kind of like myself. Doing this kind of work just makes me feel good. I don’t need to charge a lot of money and don’t need to work a bizillion hours a week because I’m the boss. I’m happy that way, and my clients get a happy and attentive lawyer, so they’re happy too. Contributing to the success of a small business, or better yet, helping out some creative individual or group get started in business is the best way I can think of to go about lawyering.
So, what exactly do I do? For the most part I spend my days getting patents, trademarks and copyrights for my clients. Anything along those lines fits in with my practice, but if you’re wondering if I can help with something else, don’t hesitate to ask. For more info on my law practice and what I do, check out my other web page.
I decided to mention the practice here because I thought, well hey, I told my friends, I told my family, and realistically speaking, I like to think of my readers as a larger circle of friends. So if you think I can help you, or if you know of someone else that might want to know about me, please send them my way!
